The Crown Jewels are the most powerful symbol of the British Monarchy and form a major part of the Queen’s identity, and it is this concept of identity that we are focusing on for our exciting celebratory Jubilee Art Project. The Oasis Partnership Art Box team have come up with a wonderful way for you to commemorate your thoughts, on both the Jubilee and your identity, through art.
We are keen to show off the huge amount of creative talent in Chesham and the Chilterns, and we are working with a range of venues in Chesham to host creative activities and exhibitions in the weeks running up to, and over, the Platinum Jubilee weekend, a four-day Bank Holiday weekend. We understand that the main events happening in Chesham Town Centre will take place on Thursday 2nd June.
We’re inviting residents, schools, and community groups to contribute to a range of creative activities, including artist-led workshops held at our Lewins Yard ArtBox studio. Our celebration event will take place on Thursday 2nd, where we will be joining the other local celebrations happening that day in Chesham Town Centre.
Taking its core idea from the official Jubilee logo of a stylised crown, we invite you to produce a work of art that communicates, “What makes you shine, what makes you special?”. You can choose to work in any medium – paint, pencil or collage – you can work in 3D, use recycled goods – you can knit, sew, or carve – the only limit to your entry is your imagination…
We are partnering with a broad spectrum of community groups, and we also want to encourage individuals to unleash their artistic flair. If you are looking for inspiration or want to have a look at someone else’s ideas, we can email you some ideas our team have had, just email bagnallproject@oasispartnership.org, and we will get in touch.
We are also using our Tech Launchpad project to record peoples Jubilee memories, so that we have an online resource of peoples memories that will last forever. We are able to take our recording equipment out and about and can arrange an interview anytime, please do get in touch via the email below, if you would like to be involved in this exciting digital project.
For more details and ideas, you can come along to our art classes in Lewins Yard every Tuesday between 12pm and 2pm and Saturdays between 11am and 1pm. If you can’t make it on a Tuesday or Saturday, please let us know, as we can arrange additional workshops when required. You are also welcome to come and chat with us at the Bagnall Project on Waterside (open Monday -Friday 9am-5pm), or email us at bagnallproject@oasispartnership.org for more details and support.
We want to involve anyone who wishes to contribute so get creative – and put your thinking crowns on! There is nothing we’d love more than to host your art at Chesham’s own Jubilee celebrations.
